This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and how your data is
handled when you use the ForU Chrome Extension.
1. Single Purpose & Overview
ForU is designed with a single purpose: to serve as a smart web highlighter, clipboard snippet vault,
and research companion that lets users highlight web text, attach annotations, and organize research
notes across websites.
2. Information We Collect
We collect and handle only the minimum data required to deliver the extension's core features:
- Website Content (User-Initiated Highlights & Notes): When you explicitly select text or an image and save it using ForU, we store the highlighted snippet, optional user annotations, the source webpage URL, and page title.
- Personally Identifiable Information (Account Data): If you choose to create an account, we collect your email address and optional profile name to associate your research notes with your account.
- Authentication Information: We store secure authentication tokens (JWT access and refresh tokens) locally and on our backend so you can remain logged in.
3. Information We Do NOT Collect
- We do not track, log, or monitor your general web browsing history.
- We do not log keystrokes, form inputs, passwords, or mouse movements on webpages you visit.
- We do not collect financial, payment, biometric, or health data.
- We do not run any background monitoring or passive web scraping.
4. How We Use and Share Your Data
All data collected is used strictly to provide the extension's features:
- Displaying your saved highlights, snippets, and notes in your personal workspace.
- Syncing your workspace notes across your sessions using our secure backend (Supabase).
Limited Use Disclosure (Chrome Web Store Compliance):
The use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the
Chrome Web Store User Data Policy,
including the Limited Use requirements.
5. Data Transfer & Third-Party Services
We use Supabase (PostgreSQL infrastructure) as our cloud database and authentication provider.
All communications with Supabase take place over encrypted HTTPS connections.
We never sell, rent, trade, or transfer your personal data or notes to third parties,
advertising brokers, data aggregators, or lending institutions. We do not use your data for advertising or marketing.
6. Permissions Used
- storage: Used to locally cache your notes, user settings, and session tokens.
- contextMenus: Enables the right-click "Save to ForU" menu option.
- activeTab: Captures the title and URL of the page you are highlighting upon user action.
- scripting: Used as an on-demand fallback to dynamically initialize the sidebar drawer when clicking the extension icon on tabs opened prior to extension installation.
- Host Permissions (<all_urls>): Allows you to highlight text and take notes on any website you choose to research.
7. Data Retention & Deletion
You can delete any individual highlight, snippet, or note at any time directly through the extension's
user interface. If you wish to delete your entire account and all associated notes, please contact us
at the email below and we will process your request promptly.
